It’s nice to meet my fans. It really is. But it’s usually the same conversations over and over again. It’s part of the job, and I don’t normally mind it. But tonight, my thoughts are on a gorgeous red-haired caterer and how much I want to be talking to no one but her.
Sometimes the groupies are grabby. That’s its own special version of difficult. I try to direct them towards a more amenable band member. Mitch is usually a good target, but it appears he’s smitten with Ginny, and I don’t know if anyone’s going to be able to pry his attention away. Instead, I foist them off on Chuck, the lead guitarist. The guy could be a model, and he exudes cool, so it’s not too hard to divert their attention when he shows off how easily he can lift them. They vie to be the next test subject and I get a little breathing room.
I use it to watch Aida. She’s both conscientious and efficient, keeping the table stocked, cleaning up the little messes that people have left behind. She’s so fucking gorgeous, and it’s clear she doesn’t have any clue. I lose myself in the idea of kissing my way down her curvy body, and it takes a minute for me to realize she’s watching me back.
She runs her tongue over her lower lip in what I’m sure is an unconscious action, but it does something to me. I’d rather she be running her tongue somewhere else, preferably on my body.
And I make a snap decision. I’ve never hooked up on tour before, despite multiple offers after every performance. I try to convince myself that I’m not trying to hook up with her; I just want a quiet place to talk. But I know, in my heart, that I will take literally anything she’s willing to give me.
I walk up to the table, and she beams at me. It strikes me she really didn’t expect me to come back, and it makes me angry at every man who’s hurt her and made her feel like she’s not worth anyone’s time. It’s lucky for them they’re not there, because I’d make an exception to my generally non-violent nature for them.
“Hey,” she says, startling me out of my caveman-thoughts. “Did you want something else?”
“Can you leave the table for a while? It looks like you’ve got it pretty well-stocked, and most people have their food.”
I see her hesitate, as what she wants to do clashes with what she thinks she ought to do. She really doesn’t need to worry. The table is packed with anything that someone might want.
“C’mon,” I tell her. “I’ve got an in with the boss.”
She grins at me and begins untying her apron. She sets it aside and I grab her hand, tugging as I break into a jog.
“We need to get out of here before anyone sees us, or we’ll have a posse of lovesick girls on our hands,” I tell her.
She looks at me with mirth in her eyes, and it’s all I can do not to kiss her right on the spot.
